Anupam Kher, an amazing actor who has worked in over 500 films, with projects in India as well as abroad. He was also honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at IIFA 2018. Over the years, Kher made sure that his performances never went unnoticed in the industry. Our continuous admiration for the actor’s craft has inspired us to acknowledge some of his best performances to date in this list.
The Accidental Prime Minister
After cricket, Politics is the most hyped and discussed topic in India. Anupam Kher has tried his best to portray Dr Singh in The Accidental Prime Minister. Granted, it was hard for him to make his voice so feeble and still sound natural, but there are no excuses for his overdramatic walk.
One may say the movie attracted two sets of viewers — those who follow politics and know what has happened in the country in the past two decades and those who woke up to Indian politics only during the 2014 Lok Sabha election.
Special 26:
Special 26 narrating a real life con-job that happened in Mumbai, India during 1980’s was, besides entertaining, an aspiring actors learning manual. Unlike other commercial movies, it is very plot-driven with real characters brought to life by supreme performances by the lead actors – Akshay Kumar, Kher sir, Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Shergill. Through their performances we realized the hard work that goes into developing and honing ones acting skills. Clarity in action, body language, expressions and speech, confidence in delivery all of which enhances ones performance was impeccably demonstrated by all the cast in this film. It was evident that all the cast have done detailed research in studying and understanding their characters, the importance of which was also taught to us during our acting sessions at Actor Prepares. The highlight of the entire film was to watch Kher in his element essaying the role of the tough yet soft hearted Sharmaji, with ease.
A Wednesday:
Prakash Rathod, a retired police commissioner recounts the most memorable case of his career wherein he was informed about a bomb scare in Mumbai by an ordinary commoner.
Anupam Kher essays the role of the top cop with enough panache to make us want to request that he be given the job for real. Might help citizens sleep at night knowing that this world-weary man had an eye on things.
Saransh: Saaransh, which has clocked 35 years of its release in the Hindi film industry, revolved around a retired school teacher and his wife, who come to terms with life after the death of their only son in a mugging incident on the streets of New York.
Anupam Kher made a debut in Bollywood with ‘Saaransh’. Believe it or not but when he played this role of a retired school teacher, he was just 27 years old. But he played this role of an old man to perfection. No one can make out this could be a guy of 27 years of age in the movie. That is where the strength of an actor lies. Saaransh can be pointed out as Anupam Kher’s best movie till date.
In a career spanning three decades, Kher has marvelously done well with the performances that he has played. His contribution to the bollywood industry is unmatchable.
