The third match of this year’s Indian Premier League will be between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both teams had pretty contrasting campaigns last year. KKR ended third in the tournament while Royal Challengers Bangalore had their worst run in IPL history, ending last with three wins and ten losses.
RCB had a forgettable last season but this time, they have every chance to turn things around. They have one of the strongest teams of the tournament on paper. Of course, they have an extremely reliable skipper and a very dangerous batsman in Virat Kohli who has been in brilliant form lately and has been shattering record after record.
AB de Villiers has been looking pretty good after the Australia series and he is someone who can take the match away from the opposition out of nowhere. Besides Kohli and ABD, the Royal Challengers boast of a batting line-up consisting of the likes of Colin Munro, Manan Vohra, Sarfaraz Khan and Mandeep Singh, all of whom have the capability to perform big in T20 cricket.
The team’s all-round department also has some pretty efficient players in Chris Woakes, Colin de Grandhomme, Moeen Ali, Corey Anderson, Pawan Negi and Washington Sundar who was adjudged the Player of the Series at the Nidahas Trophy a few weeks ago.
The team’s bowling department also has some talented names in Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee and Mohammad Siraj. However, one of the most strongest departments of RCB is the keeping department which has the likes of Brendon McCullum, Quinton de Kock and Parthiv Patel. All three players are great behind the stumps and are lethal with the bat.
Kolkata Knight Riders may not have many big names like the Royal Challengers but their team does have plenty of talent and potential. They are led by Dinesh Karthik who is quite an accomplished T20 batsman and an extremely accomplished wicket-keeper. The batting department consists of Robin Uthappa, the dangerous Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill who was the player of the tournament in the 2018 U19 World Cup.
The team’s all-round department consists of the likes of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and the young and talented Kamlesh Nagarkoti. The bowling department dealt a huge blow when Mitchell Starc was ruled out of the tournament. However, it still has the likes of Mitchell Johnson, Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav and the young Shivam Mavi.
As far as opening matches are concerned, Kolkata Knight Riders have won 7 of their 10 opening games and have won all of their previous 5 opening matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore have also won 7 of their 10 opening matches. Their loss to Deccan Chargers in last season’s tournament opener broke their 6-year streak of winning their first match of the IPL.
Well, as far as on-paper team strength is concerned, Royal Challengers Bangalore look like the favorites to win this game but KKR can never be written off. So, let’s see who makes a winning start in today’s encounter.
This promises to be a real humdinger at the Eden Gardens as RCB take on the KKR.
Dinesh Karthi and Virat Kohli, two captains, two entirely different stories, two franchises with volatile fortunes, and one promising contest.
Who will win KKR Vs RCM (Match 3 - IPL 2018)

This will be the 21st encounter between KKR and RCB with KKR leading the head-to-head by 11-9.
