Nutrition essential for good mental health


Like all different body parts, brain is also sensitive to what we eat. The brain also needs different vitamin, mineral, and acids to stay healthy. Several types of research had proved the fact that food plays a vital role in development and prevention of different kind of mental health issues. Following a healthy diet not only helps in keeping the heart, liver healthy but also helps in keeping brain health.

1) Protein-rich food items

Food items like chicken, nuts, beans, eggs are extremely rich in protein. Protein is essential for good mental health as it contains amino acid which is the building block for the production of serotonin. It is a brain chemical which makes a person well perfectly fit. A person who is having a low level of serotonin can often experience mood swings, improper sleep, and anxiety. Always make sure you intake a good amount of protein as it helps in feeling fit and satisfied.

2) Consume a proper amount of carbs

Oats, beans, all green vegetables, rice have good carbohydrates in them. Consuming these carbs in the right amount is very much necessary for your good mental health. Carbs are a good source of steady energy and they also encourage the release of serotonin. By consuming them you can feel fit and energetic for a long time.

3) Improve your intake of vitamin B

If your body gets less of vitamin B then there is a risk of depression as you may start feeling low because of it. Food like seafood, chicken, milk, eggs are rich in vitamin B. Identify more food items which you consume on daily basis and are rich in vitamin B. Improve your consumption of vitamin B so that you may not start feeling depressed or low.

4) Consume more vitamin D

Consumption of vitamin D is equally very important. The best way to give your body vitamin D is by giving regular exposure to the sun. People often feel happy on a bright sunny day. People with a low level of vitamin D tend to feel more depressed. Oily fish and eggs are rich in vitamin D. There are other food items as well which are rich in vitamin D. Consume them to give your body adequate amount of vitamin D and have a good mental health.
